Abe Ng
Proprietor
President, Founder and CEO of Sushi Maki

Passionate. Determined. Disciplined. Imaginative. Abe Ng was born to run restaurants; you might say it’s in his genes – he’s the son of immigrant restaurant operators. Today, Abe is the President, CEO and CSO (Chief Sushi Officer) of Miami-based Sushi Maki and Canton Chinese Restaurants. In this role, he oversees the strategic development and management of all the 11 restaurants owned and operated under the Sushi Maki and Canton brands, and is a partner with Whole Foods Markets for sushi stations in the South Florida Region stores.

Sushi Maki is South Florida’s premier provider of fresh, wholesome Japanese cuisine. The company offers a new spin on the traditional sushi experience through its multiple restaurant, kiosk and catering ventures. It has long been considered a favorite neighborhood dining spot for its consistent, top-quality fare served in modern, yet relaxed environments. Sushi Maki Catering has also grown quickly as word spread about its freshness, on-time delivery and attention to detail with its premium Asian cuisine offerings. It currently is the exclusive sushi caterer to some of South Florida’s finest luxury properties, including the Four Seasons, Ritz Carlton, Hard Rock Casino, Fountainebleu and Westin Hotels.

Through his business acumen and deep understanding of restaurant operations, Abe is committed to broadening the reach of Sushi Maki’s cuisine to new locations and new audiences. His business experience began with Ernst & Young LLP in Miami, where he worked as a real estate and hospitality financial analyst, and extends to his entrepreneurial efforts, including the development of Sushi Maki and an earlier launch of Wrapido Restaurants in the Miami area. Abe is steadily building Sushi Maki the old fashioned way: through hard work, creative thinking and a genuine love for tasty wholesome Asian food and warm hospitality.

Abe’s knowledge of restaurant management stems from a long family history in the industry. He is certified by the California Sushi Academy and trained at the California Sushi Chef Institute. His efforts to create a modern Japanese restaurant experience have been recognized nationally, including by the Wall Street Journal, which named Sushi Maki among the 50 Top Sushi Bars in 2006. He continues to lead the charge to create new partnerships with regional powerhouses including Whole Foods Markets, Baptist Hospitals, Miami International Airport, AmericanAirlines Arena and most recently the University of Miami and Florida International University.

A Miami native, Abe serves on various boards, including the Greater Miami Convention and Visitor Bureau, Business Improvement District of Coral Gables and the Florida Restaurant Association. He is also on the executive committee and holds the title of Chapter Chairperson for the Miami Chapter of the Young Presidents’ Organization.
Abe received his Bachelor of Science degree with honors from the School of Hotel Administration at Cornell University, and is currently completing a three year program at Harvard Business School in the Owner President Management (OPM) program. Abe, a loyal but frustrated Miami Dolphin fan, enjoys spending time with his family by going to Sushi Maki where his five and three year old children are diehard lovers of ikura (salmon roe) sushi.
